The chapter was named for the ancestor of the Organizing Regent, Louela Adele Garrett DeJong. There were 13 organizing members. Heirome Gaines was a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. In January of 1946, the chapter received a Certificate of Merit for distinguished services to the Nation by the United Service Organization.
