Coushatta Chute Chapter, NSDAR

Coushatta, Louisiana

The Coushatta Chute Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on January 28, 2023, with twenty-three organizing members, during the administration of Cheryl Whitlow Gott, State Regent for the Louisiana State Society DAR (LSDAR). The chapter selected the name Coushatta Chute from a waterway off of the Red River used by the Alabama-Coushatta Indians to get around the Great Raft of the Red River. It later became the name of the settlement at this juncture.

As a new chapter, our members are involved in promoting the core values of patriotism, education, and historic preservation.

Chapter members contributed plastic caps and lids to the “Service in Seconds Project” for veteran benches. One of the benches was dedicated to the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home, Shreveport, Louisiana, where our members participated in the Northwest District Veterans Bench Dedication and contributed gift bags to the veterans.

Highlights of chapter activities include:

  • Host a Genealogy Workshop at the Parish Library

  • Host an Armed Forces Day program

  • Read to pre-school classes

  • Award American History Bronze Medal and certificate to grades five, seven, and 11 students

  • Award Bronze Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Medal and certificate to area students

To commemorate and honor our community, the chapter members are actively researching to establish a Coushatta Chute Historical Marker.

The Coushatta Chute Chapter, NSDAR, encourages parish-wide participation. Join us as we learn and grow.
