The Bayou Lafourche Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on April 9, 1960 by the Organizing Regent, Marie-Louise Gros Lepine. The Bayou Lafourche Chapter, NSDAR, strives to live up to the NSDAR motto: "God, Home and Country" through its work with education, patriotic activities, and historic preservation.
Some of the many Service projects include:
Patriotism:

Participation in Wreaths Across America at Chalmette National Cemetery

Participation in DAR Project Patriot, such as letter writing and cards for active duty service members.

Participation in Welcome Home project for returning military
Education:

Host speakers on interesting and informative topics.

Awards DAR Youth Leadership Certificates and Medals to high school and middle school students

Award the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Certificate and Medal to a high school student

Community Service:

Attend local Naturalization ceremonies held quarterly

Collect donations and care packages for active duty military service members

Participate in community clean-up events like Love the Boot

Participate in Day of Service by bringing treats to local Fire or Police stations

Delivers cards to Veterans in Nursing homes in our area.
Historical Preservation: -
Brings traveling exhibits about Bernardo de Gálvez to local museums and libraries

Restoring a local cemetery that has three patriots interred there.

Placement of historical markers and DAR markers

Several of our members volunteer their time by doing genealogical research to help those who wish to join DAR
Members of the Bayou Lafourche Chapter are from Lafourche, St. Mary, and Terrebonne Parishes. Members gather for chapter meetings and field trips to local places of interest, and annually for a Christmas Luncheon. This chapter is a fun, friendly group and is welcoming to new members.
