The Galvez Chapter was established in 1925, the same year the NSDAR recognized the service of patriots under Spanish Governor Bernardo de Galvez, for whom the chapter is named.
The Galvez Chapter is truly multi-generational with different ways each member can participate. Members participate in many of the committee activities of the DAR, some of the chapter's highlights are:
Service for Veterans- collecting hygiene items for veterans in nursing homes and homeless shelters.
Project Patriot- collecting personal care and comfort items for women in the military
Commemorative and Patriotic Events- Wreaths Across America and Naturalization Ceremonies
Education- Encouraging schools to participate in the American History Essay Contest, Good Citizens Awards, Community Classroom projects
Conservation Activities- including planting trees, native plants and working with local conservation groups
The chapter hosts the George Washington Ball with the Attakapas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in March, recognizing high school debutantes and patriots. Members gather for a Christmas Tea at the historic Alexandre Mouton House.
Please contact the chapter if you are interested in attending a meeting, as meeting times and location vary.
