Galvez Chapter, NSDAR

The Galvez Chapter, NSDAR, was established in 1925, the same year the NSDAR recognized the service of Patriots under Spanish Governor Bernardo de Galvez, for whom the chapter is named.

The Galvez Chapter, NSDAR, is truly multi-generational with different ways each member can participate. Members participate in many of the committee activities of the DAR, some of the chapter's highlights are:

  • Service for Veterans- collecting hygiene items for veterans in nursing homes and homeless shelters.

  • Project Patriot- collecting personal care and comfort items for women in the military

  • Commemorative and Patriotic Events- Wreaths Across America and Naturalization Ceremonies

  • Education- Encouraging schools to participate in the American History Essay Contest, DAR Good Citizens Awards, and Community Classroom projects

  • Conservation Activities- including planting trees, native plants, and working with local conservation groups

The chapter hosts the George Washington Ball with the Attakapas Chapter Sons of the American Revolution in March, recognizing high school debutantes and patriots. Members gather for a Christmas Tea at the historic Alexandre Mouton House.
