Heirome Gaines Chapter, NSDAR

The Heirome Gaines Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on February 2, 1942, in the Memorial Tower, Campanile, at Louisiana State University as the 25th chapter of the Louisiana State Society DAR. The chapter was named for the ancestor of the Organizing Regent, Louela Adele Garrett DeJong. There were 13 organizing members. Heirome Gaines was a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. In January of 1946, the chapter received a Certificate of Merit for distinguished services to the Nation by the United Service Organization.

The chapter participates in a variety of service projects:

  • Fundraisers for the DAR Schools

  • hosting a baby shower for the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs

  • participating in Wreaths Across America

  • hosting a George Washington Luncheon

  • working with the Blue Star Mothers on various commemorative events projects

​

The chapter is proud to have members who are GEP certified, having completed the Genealogy Education Program courses. This chapter also recognizes its junior members by naming a chapter Outstanding Junior!

The Heirome Gaines Chapter, NSDAR, is a small, growing chapter. It loves getting junior members involved in community service and collecting donations for veterans and soldiers. Please contact the chapter for membership inquiries and information on meeting times and locations!
